Rescue A Cat Inc. - Our Purpose
R.A.C.I. is a not-for-profit incorporated association run by volunteers. Our purpose is to:
1. Care for the health and wellbeing of stray, abandoned and surrendered cats through offering a network of foster-carers.
2. Provide an adoption/placement network.
3. Inform potential adoption families about responsible pet ownership.
4. Assist in the education of the general public on the importance of de-sexing cats and kittens.
All cats and kittens re-homed through R.A.C.I. are Vet checked, de-sexed, vaccinated, micro-chipped and wormed. The funds we receive as donations and adoption proceeds go towards veterinary fees, cat food and accessories for the cats and kittens we foster.
Dedication To Diane
Shocked and devastated we were to hear of the sudden passing of our dear friend and committee member Diane on February 13 of this year.
As co-founding member, Di set up the legal and administrative structure of the group, and over these past years has dedicated much of her precious spare time to the running of RACI whilst also looking after numerous unwanted cats and kittens in her own home. In her initial role of Treasurer, and later Secretary, Di methodically and meticulously looked after much of the administrative paperwork involved. With her attention to detail, wit and practical approach Di has been an invaluable member of our group and has always kept us on track to ensure the smooth sailing of team RACI.
On a personal note, her passing also leaves a huge void. Di was a friend to all and her genuine compassion, humanity and good humour made everyone feel cared for. The world is a better place because she was in it.
Di: we miss you. You will always be a part of team RACI.
RACI has again been awarded a grant of $1,000 for 2013 and wishes to thank ExxonMobil Australia (EM). EM announced that it provided $1,000 to 115 community organisations in 2012 as part of its Volunteer Involvement Program (Program) for employees. Their Program commenced in 2002 to support the community organisations that their employees support and since that time EM has provided $1.3 million in VIP grants. RACI is extremely grateful to EM for the grant which helps with veterinary fees (de-sexing, micro-chipping and vaccinations) and other treatments for the cats and kittens that it fosters.
Special thanks to Caitlin at Ragamuffin Photography for donating her photographic services for the photo.
We are occasionally contacted by members of the public asking for assistance with re-homing their own cat(s) or kitten(s), as some people are hesitant to take them to a shelter or pound for the purpose of re-homing.
We are set up as a small rescue group that fosters abandoned and stray cat(s) and/or kitten(s) which may come to us via shelters or vets, and as such we are unfortunately unable to take on any cats and/or kittens from owners looking to re-home them.
Rescue A Cat Inc. regards cats and kittens as true family members and therefore see their care as a life long commitment. However if you think that your lifestyle is going to change to the point where you are no longer be able to care for your pet in your own home environment, you should allow plenty of time to find them another suitable loving permanent home.
To assist, we have set out some suggestions for how to go about re-homing your own cat(s) and/or kitten(s) on our Education Page under ‘Suggestions for Owner needing to Re-home their pet’.
Have you time on your hands? Would you like to help RACI and be part of a friendly team? We are looking for volunteers to:
